CLIENT BACKGROUND
Hytorc produced a multi-industry publication: the Impact of Bearing Face Knurling on Bolt Load Relaxation at Elevated Temperature (Steady at 399°C) – KnurlingStudyPublication-WP-20200527. To carry out this study, they needed a reliable bolting solution for accurate data.
CHALLENGES
They required a bolt load measurement method that was comparable to controlled laboratory measuring rods – ones that would work at the high temperatures required for their research paper. This study was designed to isolate and illuminate the effects of bearing surface knurls on embedment relaxation after operating at elevated temperature.
SOLUTION
RT-Bolt’s patented integral pin for displacement measurement has no upper temperature limits, giving market leading accuracy and efficient repeatability, which was perfect for this high temperature testing study.
CONCLUSION
The RT-Bolts demonstrated exceptional performance, with their repeatable measurements even under oxidation and scaling conditions, making it simple for Hytorc to complete their study with RT-Bolt’s ease of use. Unlike traditional methods prone to scatter due to dirt, grime, or centering issues, RT-Bolt delivered accuracy comparable to controlled lab equipment. Normalizing on strain further simplified the measurement analysis for efficient data interpretation.
